â€Å"Crime butchers innocence to secure a throne, and innocence struggles with all its might against the attempts of crime†- Maximilien Robespierre While watching the news of protests against the brutal gang rape of a 23-year old physiotherapist, my mother-in-law said â€Å"oh, it’s just a matter of few days and then nobody will care as to what exactly happened to the culprits and to the victims and their families†. Although her words didn’t surprise me, I was quite astounded and impelled to think about what she said. Have we Indians got so habituated to crimes that any act of law-breaking is just another â€Å"breaking news† for us? Why we listen to the crime related news so helplessly, as if we can’t do anything but just abuse the criminals on our†¦show more content†¦Owing to the vast socio-economic disparity, there is an aggression among the people. This aggression has not properly been dealt with which results in the growth of criminal psychology among the masses. According to many psychologists, as freedom increases, so does crime rate. Vicious environment of corruption and favoritism and lack of quality time spent by parents with their children due to excessive involvement in their own lives are some of the factors which are responsible for the rising crime rate. Without strong guidance from a devoted father, it is all too easy for a boy to become a school dropout, to drift aimlessly into petty thievery. Not just the time but the values passed on to the next generation also contribute to the rise in crimes. Ours is a male dominated society and so the stereotype dreams of a father of â€Å"getting the daughter married to a prince† and â€Å"having the son admitted in most reputed foreign university† are passed on to the nextgen. To a huge extent this mentality is responsible for crimes against women. In some ways the law and order situation add to the exasperation of the criminals. Not only are the keepers of the law easily corruptible but are also exceedingly brutal and vicious in some ways. â€Å"Some laws of state aimed at curbing crime are even more criminal†, said Friedrich Engels.
